Location(s): Menlo Park
Reports To: Executive Director, Associate Director
Consults With: Staff Coach
Pay: $20-$40 per hour, depending on experience
Work Status: Part-time/Full-time (Full-time 8:00am-5pm M-F
OR Part-time generally 8:30am-3:00pm M-F)
Position Summary
The position of Learning Guide is a unique opportunity for professionals interested in a career in
Education, Behavior Support, Speech Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Psychology,
Mental Health, Behavioral Health, Social Work or related fields to gain meaningful hands-on
experience in a dynamic work environment. Training, consultation, and ongoing opportunities for
personal and professional growth are embedded in the experience and opportunities at Open
Minds.
Duties and Responsibilities

Follow an individual education program for student(s) based on the student’s Student
-
Learning Overview and education plan including positive behavior support plans.

Support student(s) in maintaining regulation, engagement, and attention.

Provide support during group times, small group, and individual instruction. We have art therapists, music therapists, yoga/movement, cooking and many other elective specials embedded in our curriculum.

Under the direction of the supervising specialist you might be responsible for implementing or completing lesson plans or working on student individual goals.

Support the classroom teacher in daily instruction.

Help student(s) follow safe and appropriate daily living skill routines.

Be on time at the beginning of your shift and when returning from breaks.

Attend team meetings.

Assist with providing regular, ongoing, positive communication with parents, including but not limited to, daily or weekly written and verbal reports.

Direct questions from parents as needed to the school director and family engagement program coordinator.

Support the classroom teacher in maintaining classroom structure and organization.

Administrative tasks as assigned.

Maintain confidentiality.

Dress in comfortable but professional attire.

Qualifications

Requirements include a background check

Classroom learning guides must possess excellent leadership, interpersonal and time management skills, proficiency with writing and communication, good problem-solving skills, and must work well within teams.

An open mind to many methodologies and teaching strategies is required.

Minimum of an undergrad degree and preference for graduate degree in progress or completed.

This position is largely sedentary in nature. However, one must possess the ability to speak, hear, write, use a computer and related software programs, and lift up to 20 lbs. Ongoing local and/or national travel periodically required.
