School Transportation Driver

JOB DESCRIPTION

Location(s):                     Menlo Park, CA

Work Status:                   Part Time 8-10am, 2-5pm and as needed

Position Summary

The ideal candidate is a responsible and mature individual who enjoys working with kids. This person engages students, their families and our staff in a professional and caring manner and demonstrates reliability.  The role requires a driver with a clean DMV record, who can show sound independent judgment and patience in challenging situations. 

This is a split-shift position providing pick-ups in the morning and drop-offs in the afternoon. The driver will transport children to and from our Menlo Park campus from cities and towns in the surrounding bay area.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Provide safe, reliable transportation door to door from student homes to our Menlo Park school and from school to the student home

  • Transport between 1-3 students to and from school in a personal vehicle

  • Transport up to 10 students on field trips in a school transportation van

  • Creating a sensory friendly experience free of aroma and with audiobooks or music available on request

  • Maintain a clean and clutter free vehicle

  • Maintain a current and active car registration, auto insurance, and a clean driving record

  • Communicate with the Executive or Associate Director regarding traffic issues which will significantly impact the arrival or departure of the student

  • Maintain daily transportation logs, keep track of mileage and gas purchases (if applicable)

  • Report vehicle maintenance needs to the Executive or Associate Director

  • Monitor the safety and wellbeing of students while in transit

  • Offer campus support to teachers and learning guides with transitioning students on and off campus for field trips and vocational opportunities

  • Provide transportation from other school settings to the Open Mind campus 

  • Willing to be CPR certified

Qualifications

Basic

  • Provide proof of insurance for your vehicle

  • Clean DMV record

  • Clear a background check

  • Negative TB test

  • Follow COVID-19 protocols including daily screening forms, surveillance testing, and good hygiene practices

Preferred

  • Experience working with children with disabilities

  • Experience driving in Bay Area
